The larger universities can be appealing when you’re applying for an undergraduate program, but having attended both Okanagan College and a larger university, I can say that Okanagan College was my favorite part of my learning journey. The professors were so caring and truly loved teaching. They knew all of us by name and we developed strong friendships with our peers because of the small class sizes.

There was plenty of attention and care offered to each student, which is hard to find in a lecture hall with hundreds of students. Okanagan College was the perfect transition into my senior university years and I’m really grateful I had that experience. My professors had a lasting impact on me and truly helped guide me on my path of finding a career that I love.

Can you tell us how your experience at Â黨´«Ã½helped shaped the path you have chosen?

I am a Wildlife and Inland Temperate Rainforest Conservation Biologist primarily working for the Valhalla Wilderness Society. My undergraduate professors in biology inspired me to love parts of the natural world that I had overlooked and instilled an excitement for learning me through their passion for ecology and the sciences.

Why did you choose Okanagan College for your post-secondary education?

I wanted a more intimate learning experience that I couldn’t get at a larger university. Okanagan College also offered a great upgrading program that helped me transition easefully into my undergraduate studies.

Tell us about a memorable experience or project that made a lasting impact on your learning journey at OC

I thought botany would be boring but I remember entering into our botany lab and the room would be dark with a David Attenborough clip playing. My professor set the tone with these timelapse videos that highlighted the truly magical world of plants. Then we would examine plants under dissecting microscopes, which was actually fascinating. I developed a love for botany that I never expected.
