Vernon campus to host hundreds of high schoolers at health care careers event featuring global mental health advocate

Local and regional media are invited to attend a landmark youth-focused event that will bring together over 800 Grade 9 students from across the Vernon area for an engaging, hands-on exploration of careers in health care on June 12.
Global mental health advocate Alex Boyé will be in attendance to provide an inspirational keynote address.
This special day – Championing Health Careers - is being hosted in partnership by School District 22 and Okanagan College and has been sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Childcare, aiming to inspire the next generation of health care professionals at a time when health care workers are urgently needed.

Internationally acclaimed artist and mental health advocate Alex Boyé is known for using music and storytelling to tackle youth mental illness and reduce stigma. A former member of the Tabernacle Choir and a finalist on America’s Got Talent, Boyé has received the Didi Hirsch “Erasing the Stigma” Award and is an Ambassador for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
His message resonates powerfully with today’s youth, combining entertainment with a call to courage, connection, and care.
